Serge Gainsbourg, real name Lucien Ginsburg, who died in Paris on March 2, 1991 at the age of 62, was a multifaceted French artist. A painter, singer-songwriter, pianist, writer, actor and director, Serge Gainsbourg remains an emblematic figure of French song and an extraordinary public figure. A provocateur, the Frenchman caused controversy during his television appearances, such as in 1984 when he burned a 500 franc note live in front of the cameras, or in 1986 when he did not hesitate to declare to the American singer Whitney Houston present on the set “I want to fuck her”.
