Military and strategic expert Brigadier General Elias Hanna said that the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip is not looking for a decisive battle with the Israeli occupation forces, but rather for fighting from zero distance, which gives it the advantage in this type of fighting.
Brigadier General Hanna's statement came in response to a question from Al Jazeera regarding the rocket barrages and sniper operations carried out by the resistance and which have been ongoing for several months in the Gaza Strip.
He stressed that the resistance is currently waging a guerrilla war against the occupation army, and because it knows the ground, it can, with minimal investment, carry out important operations targeting the Israeli occupation forces.
He said that the Netzarim axis is still the constant and permanent target bank for the resistance, in addition to the Philadelphi axis, stressing that the resistance still has the capabilities and ability to bomb the Gaza envelope and other areas.
The Israeli army announced that 5 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip towards the south, one of which fell in the Ashkelon Coast Regional Council area.
For its part, the Al-Quds Brigades – the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement – broadcast footage of the rocket barrages that bombarded the cities of Ashkelon, Sderot, and the settlements surrounding Gaza.
Although each stage has its own circumstances, the resistance is still able to continue fighting and take the occupation army to places where it has the upper hand, as Hanna said.
He stated that in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, the resistance had time to prepare the ground, i.e. carry out booby-trapping operations and plant cameras, thus luring the Israeli occupation army to the place it wanted.
Regarding the numbers reported by Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper regarding the losses of the occupation army, the military and strategic expert doubted the numbers mentioned by the Israeli newspaper, and said that they were much more.
Yedioth Ahronoth reported earlier that at least 10,000 Israeli soldiers were killed or wounded during the long months of fighting in the Gaza Strip, and that Israeli Defense Ministry records show that about a thousand Israeli soldiers join the Ministry of Defense's rehabilitation department every month due to mental and physical disabilities.
The military and strategic expert pointed out that the 10,000 figure relates to direct losses, but there is also the indirect impact that the Gaza war will leave on Israeli society in the long term, i.e. the post-war shock.
