Youth protection: Spain introduces porn passport | Politics

Spain wants to prevent children and young people from finding and accessing porn on the Internet. The country is in a hurry and does not want to wait until October 2027 to introduce a corresponding EUregulation comes into force.

That's why Madrid is introducing a porn pass: the “Digital Wallet Beta”. Anyone who wants to watch erotic films on the Internet can use the app to confirm that he (or she) is at least 18 years old and initially receives 30 porn credits. They are valid for one month, after which further credits can be generated.

The Spanish government praises this model for guaranteeing data protection and for ensuring that users' online activities CANNOT be traced. The system is expected to be available across the country by the end of the summer.

The use of “Digital Wallet Beta” is voluntary for providers of erotic films. Online platforms can also use other methods to confirm the age of their customers.

The Spanish porn passport is expected to be replaced by an EU-wide digital identity system based on the elDAS2 regulation by 2027 at the latest.

This will enable users in all EU countries to gain secure access to a wide range of public and private services and to prove their identity.

“We are acting in advance,” said José Luis Escrivá of the government in Madrid to the largest Spanish daily newspaper “El Pais.” “And we are calling on the platforms to do the same.” Escrivá warns: “There is a lot at stake.”
