Tonight streaming: for a good laugh with friends, nothing beats this shark movie rated 1.1 out of 5! – Actus Ciné
(Re)discover “Sharktopus”, a real shark movie in which a half-shark, half-octopus creature starts attacking swimmers. Available on Amazon Prime Video.
Almost 50 years ago, Steven Spielberg terrorized viewers and swimmers around the world with Jaws, considered the first blockbuster in cinema and the unbeatable benchmark for a sub-genre that would struggle to maintain the bar in terms of quality.
Indeed, over the years, there have been countless projects that have tried to follow in the maestro's footsteps. Some with some success, such as the stifling 47 Meters Down where two divers found themselves trapped in a cage and surrounded by sharks, or the recent Sous la Seine, which created an event on Netflix.
Shark + Octopus = Sharktopus
Others, on the other hand, often encouraged by the production company The Asylum (specializing in B movies), have decided to take a huge step aside and offer their audience real “underwater stinkers” that they assume as such!
After seeing a shark tornado form (in Sharknado and its sequels), after having contemplated snow sharks (Avalanche Sharks), sand sharks (Beach Sharks) or even a two-headed shark, fans of this very particular sub-sub-genre of cinema were able to discover… Sharktopus.
As its title suggests, this 2010 TV movie directed by Declan O'Brien follows the adventures of a hybrid creature that is half shark and half giant octopus and begins to cause panic on Californian beaches after escaping from the army laboratory in which it was created.

1,185 out of 5 stars
On the menu of this horror film that is much funnier than scary (and available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video), we find absolutely all the ingredients that make the charm of productions of this type: a scenario that seems to have been conceived by a 3 and a half year old child, ridiculous dialogues, a fireworks display of gore scenes, computer-generated images that have nothing to envy of a Nintendo 64 game, and of course an exceptional spectator rating of… 1,185 stars out of 5.
Let's also point out that Eric Roberts (Julia's brother), who we saw in particular in Expendables and The Dark Knight, plays the leading role in the film.
In short, if the goal of your evening is simply to have a good laugh with your friends on your couch, there is no need to hesitate. Because no! The vast ocean of cinema is not populated only by great films, and sometimes, in order to get a more complete picture, it can be interesting to explore its depths to get to know its most improbable creatures.
