Tonight on TV: Quentin Dupieux signs one of his best films, and Alain Chabat is part of the adventure – Cinema News
Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on TV. Tonight: a delightful absurd comedy (but not only) by the essential Quentin Dupieux.
Fans of Quentin Dupieux's crazy universe? Then, settle in comfortably and tune in this Wednesday evening on Arte: for 1 hour and 14 minutes, you'll be treated to Incroyable mais vrai, one of the very best films by the unclassifiable filmmaker.
The comedy pitch Unbelievable but truereleased in theaters in 2022, is very simple but full of a beautiful strangeness that immediately makes you want to venture further: Alain and Marie, who have just moved into a house, see their existence turned upside down by a trapdoor located in the cellar…
With Unbelievable but true, Dupieux made of Dupieux : it's inventive, crazy, offbeat, absurd, burlesque, strange… Fans won't be disappointed. But the filmmaker goes further here, managing to sign an existential fable that is at once surreal, melancholic and disturbing. We obviously won't reveal anything more so that your viewing pleasure remains intact, but the result, which leaves a lasting impression, is brilliant.
A jubilant quartet of actors
“It is without a doubt the most linear film of Quentin Dupieuxwhich does not involve narrative twists, such as breaking the fourth wall”says Alain Chabat, who is reunited with the filmmaker after Réalité, Au poste! and Fumer fait cougher. “I really like the fact that he clings to his story, never pretends. And this, without giving up his pleasure, or rather that he goes towards others.”
Presented out of competition at the prestigious Berlinale, Unbelievable but true finally owes its success to its excellent quartet of actors. Alain ChabatLéa Drucker, Benoît Magimel and Anaïs Demoustier integrate with ease and, one senses, a real jubilation, the unique universe of Quentin Dupieux. Spend the evening in their strange company, you will not be disappointed by the experience!
Tonight on Arte at 8:55 p.m.
