Philippe Vasseur, aka José in “Les Mystères de l'amour”, has just explained his choice to leave the TMC series in a recent interview… and he doesn't mince his words!
In December 2023, fans of Les Mystères de l'amour learned that Philippe Vasseur had decided to leave the series after several decades in the shoes of José. Indeed, the actor has played this role since its creation in Hélène et les garçons, then in Le Miracle de l'amour and Les Vacances de l'amour… until today in the incredible fiction of TMC.
Philippe Vasseur comments on his departure from “Les Mystères de l'amour”
After announcing his departure on Facebook, the actor recently spoke about it again in an interview with France 3 Regions. Philippe Vasseur explains in more detail here why he chose to leave his colleagues at AB Productions:
“At my own level, I learned everything: work fast, learn the lines fast, be in the sequences as quickly as possible. We were criticized for years. Now, I can say it, I challenge all the actors to come and do days of shooting like we did and say these lines. We'll see what they do if we only give them two takes, if they're good right away! Then I'll shut my mouth.“
A need for renewal
The former interpreter of José continues by simply indicating that he needs to explore something else: “As long as I had fun, it was fine. With my friend Patrick Puydebat (Nicolas, editor's note) we had some good sequences, we had some laughs, despite the long days, despite the texts… which I found, myself, light.“
“When my son finished school, I decided to stop. I wasn't having fun anymore and I had trouble learning the texts, it was becoming too heavy for me, I just wanted qualityconfides Philippe Vasseur. I'm not spitting in the soup. At 58, I have the right to say that I want to act in quality stuff, to say quality texts where I take pleasure, something that makes me crazy!”
“So what if my acting career ends here. Well, it ends here. And I'm not going to cry, I'm not going to wait by my phone. That's all over, it's over, over!“Clearly very sure of himself and working as a visual artist, it would seem that José is not ready to return to The Mysteries of Love any time soon…
