'My first reaction was to say no': Kit Harrington explains why the Jon Snow series will ultimately not see the light of day – News Séries

Kit Harrington has returned to the reasons which led to the abandonment of the series “Jon Snow”, conceived as a direct sequel to the end of “Game of Thrones”.

The Jon Snow series will not see the light of day, but that is not necessarily bad news. The actor who plays the character Kit Harrington has already turned the page, despite his involvement in the development of the project, which was imagined as a direct extension of the Game of Thrones finale.

The series ended in May 2019 after an eighth season. After killing his aunt Daenerys Targaryen with his own hands, with whom he was also the lover (he is the legitimate son of his brother Aegon Targaryen and Lynna Stark), the latter renounced the throne that could have come back to him to go explore the territories beyond the Wall with the Night's Watch.

Kit Harrington was not in favor of the project

After two years of development, the project was nevertheless shelved last April. At that time, Kit Harrington had suggested that this decision was made because they could not find a sufficiently interesting story to tell.

Questioned again on the subject by our colleagues at GQ Magazinethe English actor returned in detail to the reasons which convinced him “to more or less withdraw” discussions.

Against all expectations, the latter reveals that he refused to consider the possibility of appearing in a spin-off on Jon Snow when the HBO channel first spoke to him about the project:

When HBO came to me and asked if I would consider this, my first reaction was to say no. And then I thought it might be interesting to imagine the story of a soldier after the war. I thought there was still something to tell, and room for a story told in a short format. We spent several years developing this story. And in the end, none of it seemed exciting enough.

Certainly affected by the public's negative reactions to the final season of Game of Thrones, Kit Harrington therefore preferred not to take any risks. 'If we had continued to move forward and develop this story, we might have ended up with something that wasn't good enough.' he added during this interview.

7 new Game of Thrones series could see the light of day!

Abandoning the Jon Snow spin-off seems to have been the wisest decision. Especially since there is no shortage of projects around the Game of Thrones franchise. Seasons 3 and 4 of House of the Dragon will see the light of day, and the series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (adapted from the Chronicles of the Knight Errant) has started filming.

In addition to a prequel project around Ageon the Conqueror, several animated series are also in development, including a series on the youth of the Sea Serpent, Corlys Velaryon. These projects are supervised by George RR Martin himself, who continues in parallel to work on the writing of the sixth volume of the literary saga entitled The Winds of Winter.

All the series from the Game of Thrones universe can now be found exclusively on Max.
