Medical technology from Germany | Tuttlingen is a world centre
Tuttlingen also has a university?
We have been the home of the Tuttlingen university campus since 2009 – a long-held wish of our town, which was made possible thanks to the joint commitment of the town, the district and local industry. It is unlikely that local players will cover a significant part of the costs of a state university. But in the context of location policy, it was worth it to us. The shortage of skilled workers has been one of our most serious problems for years – high-tech global companies in a more rural environment simply have problems that do not exist elsewhere. Since we have been training our own specialists here locally, we have heard complaints from companies much less often. Our university does not have to complain about a lack of young talent: thanks to the close ties to industry, the students there are usually guaranteed a job after graduation – and that is an argument that is becoming increasingly important.
So Tuttlingen equals medical technology?
Medical technology is indeed dominant here, but it is not everything. We also have mechanical engineering, automotive and services. Above all, despite its economic strength, Tuttlingen is a location that has other qualities – from the cultural and leisure activities to the location. The Upper Danube Valley is on your doorstep, and the Black Forest and Lake Constance are not far away.
