Leica with its own photo app: Iconic camera comes to mobile phones | Life & Knowledge

Cameras from the cult brand Leica are an absolute dream object for many (hobby) photographers – but are often unattainable due to the price.

The German camera manufacturer from Wetzlar has been producing rangefinder cameras since 1920, which have been used over the years Photo History and is known for particularly sharp, fast lenses and high image quality.

But also for its price: A Leica M costs well over 5000 euros – without lenses, mind you. For those, you also pay several thousand euros.

Now Leica wants to make at least a pinch of its myth affordable for those on a tight budget and, quite untypically for the brand, which also stands for minimalism and conservative development, is releasing its own photo app for the iPhone: Leica LUX.

In addition to many manual setting options, the app offers, among other things, the simulation of iconic Leica lenses: such as the Summilux-M 28 f/1.4 ASPH or the Noctilux-M 50 f/1.2 ASPH. The classic color profile of a Leica should also be met.

Leica itself promises that “these lens simulations can create the unmistakable look that Leica lenses are known for.” With the app, you can “experiment with well-known Leica lenses.”

According to Leica, this makes it the first camera manufacturer with its own photo app. Leica LUX is available as a free app with a subscription model: the free version only allows you to access a lens simulation, among other things. For 7.99 euros per month (or 79.99 euros per year) you get four different fixed focal lengths and a larger selection of color profiles.
