Last chance on Netflix: before its sequel in theaters, this epic film rated 4.5 out of 5 is to be caught up urgently – Cinema News

It's one of the biggest movies in cinema and you can catch it on Netflix before it leaves the catalog.

This is one of those masterpieces that you have to see at least once in your life. Rated 4.5 out of 5, this critically and publicly successful film generated $450 million in revenue upon its release and won numerous awards, including 5 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor.

Marking a new era when it was released in 2000, this feature film relaunched the genre of the epic peplum and blockbuster that grabs you by the guts, that moves you and that dazzles you as much for its monstrous fights as for its memorable lines. If you haven't seen it yet or if you want to see it again, know that it is available on Netflix.

We advise you to catch up on this feature film, which has rekindled an interest in Roman history and Antiquity, because a sequel is planned for this year, but hurry because the film is leaving the platform's catalog soon!

A masterpiece to catch up on

Directed by Ridley Scott, Gladiator tells the story of Roman general Maximus, the most loyal supporter of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, whom he led from victory to victory with exemplary bravery and dedication.

Jealous of Maximus' prestige, and even more so of the emperor's love for him, Marcus Aurelius' son, Commodus, brutally seizes power, then orders the general's arrest and execution.

Maximus escapes his assassins but cannot prevent the massacre of his family. Captured by a slave trader, he becomes a gladiator and prepares his revenge.

Driven by the iconic music of Hans Zimmer accompanied by Lisa Gerrard, Gladiator also counts on the performances of its actors Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Oliver Reed, Djimon Hounsou, Richard Harris, Derek Jacobi and Tommy Flanagan.

A sequel coming soon to the cinema

Twenty-four years later, Ridley Scott relaunches the Gladiator epic with a sequel, simply titled Gladiator II. This sequel centers on Lucius, nephew of the hero Maximus, who is forced into the Colosseum when his country is conquered by the tyrannical emperors who now rule Rome with an iron fist.

With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find the strength and honor to restore the glory of Rome to his people. Set to hit theaters in France on November 13, Gladiator II takes place approximately 20 years after the original film.

The first images of this sequel promise an epic film that we hope will live up to the first masterpiece. But we bet that the cast of Gladiator II, composed of veterans and new talents such as Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Lior Raz and Derek Jacobi, will thrill us.

The movie “Gladiator” leaves Netflix's catalog on August 15.
