Instagram: Platform tests ads that can't be skipped | Life & Knowledge

“We want people to have a place on Instagram where they can find new inspiration every day,” is how Meta describes Instagram. However, Instagram users should now also find inspiration through advertisements that they may not even want to see.

Changes to advertisements

Until now, annoying advertisements could be removed with one click. Since last weekend, this has not always been the case. Meta confirmed that Instagram is testing ads that cannot be clicked away. The feature was used for the first time last weekend.

Instagram spokesman Matthew Tye told The Verge, Instagram would “provide updates should this testing result in any formal product changes.”

Is the paid version of Instagram coming?

The Instagram user is shown a timer that shows how long the ad will run for. This function is also available on YouTube: If you don't pay, you will also see ads that you cannot skip.

Unlike YouTube, Instagram users currently do not have the option to pay to remove ads. A paid version of Instagram that does not display ads could now be one of Meta's next steps.
