Cancer diagnosis: “Seven years ago I was given six months” | Life & Knowledge

“I was just getting my life in order when the cancer came,” remembers Stefania Keller (38). Diagnosis: choroidal melanoma, a malignant tumor behind the eye.

An operation was not possible. For fear of losing her eyesight, she also decided against chemotherapy or radiation. A doctor at the University Hospital in Essen gave her six months to live. Today – seven years later – the tumor is still there, but so is Stefania.

In an interview with BILD, the young woman explains how she gained the courage and defiance to live life to the fullest from her fate, which therapy ultimately helped her and how she is doing today.
