Apple fans have two dates in particular in their calendar: the WWDC developer conference in the summer and the iPhone event in September. But the Apple corporation also regularly presents news in the spring, mostly away from the iPhone and Apple Watch.

This year too: Today is Apple-Event! Under the motto “Let yourself free” there will be new product announcements today. However, not live from Apple Park (Cupertino, California) like at the really big events, but as a recording. And as is often the case, a lot is already known about what Apple is expected to present from 4 p.m.

Overdue iPad update

The announcement of a long overdue iPad update is expected. The current iPad Air is already two years old, the current models of the iPad and the iPad Pro were released one and a half years ago.

According to rumors, the iPad Air and iPad Pro are now getting a facelift. The focus is particularly on the displays.

The Pro models are finally to be equipped with an OLED display that can show particularly deep black levels and contrast. It is also rumored that the Pro models could come with the new M4 chip in the future. This could allow Apple to prepare for the WWDC developer conference in the summer: Here, Apple is expected to focus on new AI applications – and use its new, powerful chip for this.

There is speculation about new display sizes for the iPad Air: the current size with a 10.9-inch display is to be joined by a new 12.9-inch variant. This would bring the Air models more in line with the Pro models.

New Apple Pencil

Another indication of possible announcements from Apple is the logo of the event: Here you can see a hand with an Apple Pencil in it, spreading blobs of color on curved, colored paper. In addition to new iPads, a new version of Apple's stylus could also be on the way.

There is speculation that the new pen could also support a new “squeeze” gesture, meaning it reacts to being squeezed. It should also be discoverable via Apple's “Find My” network.

Apple is broadcasting the keynote live on its own website. However, it will be broadcast at an unusual time, as it will start at 4 p.m. German time on May 7.

Normally, the company bases its launch on the west coast of the USA, where its headquarters are located. When it is 10 a.m. there, it is 7 p.m. in Germany. This time, however, Apple seems to have based its launch on the east coast of the USA and has set the date for 10 a.m. there. This means that in Germany, it will start at 4 p.m.
