The homescreen revolution
That too iPhone-Operating system iOS gets an update to version 18.
And with the new version, Apple has fulfilled a big wish of many users: it will finally be possible to arrange the apps freely on the home screen. You can also adjust the colors of the apps as you wish, so you can design the home screen to your own taste.
Apple fans have been waiting for this for a long time: free rein in app placement on the home screen
The new control center gives users easier access to many of the functions they use every day. The new design allows apps to be grouped and displayed in their own layout and in any size.
The Photos app is getting its biggest overhaul yet: a new start screen is designed to make using the app more intuitive. In addition to the classic grid view, there is a new area in which photos are sorted by category.
The new Photos app should be much clearer
A new carousel view shows personal highlights with friends, pets, places and more. The library comes to life with automatic playback of content in the app.
Goodbye keychain, hello password app! The keychain is no longer needed. A new app just for passwords allows users to easily access login data, passkeys and confirmation codes. It also points out known data leaks and complains about saved passwords that are easy to guess.
Siri finally gets horny
The big bang was saved Apple CEO Tim Cook until the end of the keynote: Apple's own AI.
The so-called Apple Intelligence will in future penetrate deep into the systems of all Apple products This means, among other things, that Siri is finally going to be awesome.
The voice assistant will be able to hold longer and coherent conversations and execute commands on your iPhone. It will also understand the user's context.
In addition to new capabilities, Siri also gets a new logo
For example, you can ask Siri: Where am I meeting my mother for dinner? And the AI searches your messages, knows who “mother” means, and shows you an appointment you made in a chat – even if you've forgotten the calendar entry.
In addition to a much smarter Siri, Apple has introduced even more AI functions: Among other things, Apple Intelligence can rephrase texts, generate photos and summarize notifications in a clear manner. And if the existing emojis are not enough for you, you can simply have the AI create a completely new one based on the chat history, which Apple calls Genmoji.
With Genmojis you can create your own emojis by entering text
What is particularly impressive here is the deep integration into the operating system. According to Apple, the AI functions can be used almost anywhere and are also open to third-party developers. No other manufacturer has ever seen this on such a comprehensive scale.
In addition, Apple has announced a collaboration with OpenAI, the creators of the AI ChatGPTAll Apple customers can use these additionally free of charge – but must agree to this beforehand.
With all these functions, Apple promises that all processed data will remain private – and even Apple itself cannot view it.
Whether Apple will use a own AI model The company did not reveal in the keynote speech whether it had developed a new product or purchased an existing one.
Now some bad news: Apple Intelligence will be available free of charge to all iPhone users with the launch of iOS18 in the fall – but only if you have the iPhone 15 Pro or newer The upcoming iPhone 16, which is expected in the fall. Because according to Apple, the AI needs a lot of computing power – and therefore at least an A17 Pro chip or one of the M chips from the iPad and MacBook.
