When we are woken up in the morning, it is no longer the traditional alarm clock that is used. Instead, 60 percent of Germans are woken up by their smartphones, according to a Bitkom survey.
But modern cell phones have not only replaced the alarm clock as an everyday device. For German smartphone owners, the camera is in second place (54 percent), followed by the video camera (44 percent).
Almost a third (31 percent) of respondents prefer to travel by car. smartphones than a navigation device, the Opinion poll furthermore.
Our cell phones are real all-rounders. And the list of things and devices that have become superfluous is long.
Clocks and alarm clocks
We don't need to check the date and time on our wrists; this data is stored in our mobile phones. Three out of five Germans wake up in the morning with their smartphones.
Digital camera/ video camera
With built-in cameras whose quality exceeds conventional Digital cameras has long since been achieved, smartphones are now used by more than half of Germans for taking photos and filming. Even cult camera manufacturers like Leica have their own photo apps for smartphone photographers.
The first mobile phone with a camera was the Toshiba Camesse, released in 1999.
navigation device
Navigation via mobile phone via Google or Apple Maps is quick and uncomplicated. However, external navigation systems still have the advantage of larger displays and pre-installed GPS map coverage that also works in areas with poor cell reception.
Navigation devices are no longer absolutely necessary thanks to smartphones, but they still have some advantages
MP3 player
Nobody needs MP3 players anymore since smartphones can play music and thousands of songs are available at any time via streaming services.
Incidentally, Siemens launched the SL45, the first mobile phone with an integrated MP3 player, in 2001. Before that, listening to music on a mobile phone was only possible via the radio.
calculator
All smartphones today are equipped with a calculator. Multiplying, subtracting, adding and dividing – no problem! For complicated fraction calculations, however, you still need the good old calculator.
remote control
The mobile phone can also replace the TV remote control. Simply the home WLANwhich must be connected to the television and smartphone.

Baby monitor
According to the Bitkom survey, four percent of Germans also use their cell phones as baby monitors. To monitor your offspring via cell phone, you need a transmitter that is placed near the baby and a corresponding app.
Then you can choose to monitor using just sound or also with images. In addition to the cost savings, the main advantage is the range of the cell phones.
Keep an eye on your baby at all times. You can even use the app to talk to your child in a calming way
Game console
Increasingly larger displays also turn smartphones into portable gaming consoles to banish boredom on the go.
Notebooks
Shopping lists, addresses, tasks, reminders – all of this can now be typed into smartphones using the notes function.
calendar
You also no longer have to keep track of appointments on paper calendars. You can enter them into your cell phone, complete with reminders for each individual.
Dictation devices
Hardly anyone uses dictation devices anymore. With any modern smartphone or corresponding app, conversations can now be easily recorded.
scanner
Quickly scan a document to send it as a PDF. You can do that with your smartphone these days. iPhones have a scanner integrated into the notes application. AndroidUsers can use free apps for this purpose.

flashlight
Suddenly it's dark, what now? While we used to need a flashlight, today we use the light source in our smartphones. 30 percent of Germans use them.
Spirit level
Is the shelf straight, is the picture hanging crooked? In the past, you had to rummage around in the tool cabinet to check, but today you can quickly check it with your smartphone.
Tape measure
Cell phones can scan the environment and measure objects. Height, length, depth, width – all this and more is possible with apps like “Tape Measure” for iOS or “Google Measure” for Android.
Books/ E-Book Readers
Books can be downloaded via the corresponding apps as eBook on your mobile phone. They are also an alternative to conventional e-book readers such as Kindle & Co. Integrated reading modes in the apps even save battery capacity.
map
City maps also became obsolete with the first smartphone models. Thanks to Google Maps and Apple Maps, you can now find your way around unfamiliar places offline.
dictionary
Instead of having to search for the right sentence in a dictionary while on vacation, you can now use your cell phone. Simply type or speak and the words will be spit out in the desired language.
Make-up mirror
Quickly touch up your lipstick – you can do this thanks to the selfie camera on your smartphone. Without having to pack the small mirror in your bag.
