Apple plans iPad with robotic arm | Life & Knowledge
A robotic arm as a smart home command center? According to a report by the always well-informed journalist Mark Gurman from the media group “Bloomberg”, hundreds of Apple employees are working on an iPad with an integrated robotic arm. Anonymous sources describe the device as a home pod, video conference window and security tool in one.
How will the iPad with robotic arm work and how much will it cost?
The futuristic robot iPad is said to have the code name “J595”. After Apple finally buried the plans for the long-awaited electric car, the “J595” project is probably gaining more and more momentum.
Apple is also expected to artificial intelligence (AI) which the tech company from sunny Cupertino (California, USA) calls “Apple Intelligence”. Similar to the Siri software, you can assign different things to the iPad, query things or simply have a conversation.
▶︎ According to insider Gurman, the new device will be launched in 2026 or 2027, probably first in the US. The price? Under 1000 US dollars (910 euros)! A bargain in the otherwise expensive Apple universe.
Can the iPad with robotic arm stroke or scratch?
Probably not for now. So far, Apple experts are planning to attach the slim robot arm to the table. This will allow the screen to be moved up and down or rotated 360 degrees.
“J595” is intended to serve as a control center for smart home devices such as heating thermostats, lamps and music systems. Video calls should also be possible. For example, the table robot should execute commands such as “Look at me” in order to then position the display.
Experts skeptical: Smart Home is not financially worthwhile
Smart home technology doesn't make the tech giants any money. Last month, the Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon is burning billions on its Echo offering.
The world's largest mail order company has been trying for some time to distribute paid subscriptions to millions of households through inexpensive Alexa devices.
The fact is: the iPad with a robotic arm from Apple would be innovative. However, it is questionable whether that would be enough to make smart homes more attractive.
