Apple Event in the live ticker: All information about the new iPad Air and iPad Pro | Life & Knowledge
Two new iPad models, a new Apple Pencil. That is the result of the keynote in London, which BILD attended live.
Highlight of the presentation: The new iPad Pro is said to be the thinnest device Apple has ever built. The small 11-inch model measures 5.3 mm, the larger 13-inch version measures just 5.1 mm. It is thinner than the iPod nano.
At just 5.1 millimeters, the new iPad Pro is impressively thin
Apple did not want to answer whether the battery in the new iPad Pro has become smaller to accommodate the extra-thin design. However, the same battery life is promised as in the predecessor.
The new iPad Air also comes in these two sizes, but is not as thin as the new iPad Pro.
The design of the iPad Air has not changed much, only the available sizes
Practical for both the new iPad Pro and iPad Air: The front camera is now located on the long side of the tablet. This means you can set up the device horizontally for video calls and still look straight into the center of the camera.
Not only super thin, also super fast and energy efficient
Apple has installed the new M4 chip in the iPad Pro. The M3 chip is not even a year old. The M4 processor is said to be up to four times faster than the M2 chip that Apple has installed in the new iPad Air.
Another big plus of the M4 chip is its performance for AI calculations. It is one of the fastest chips on the market.
Hands-On: Here, visitors to the event in London can try out the new devices. The last iPad Air is already two years old, and the iPad and iPad Pro models were released one and a half years ago. So new tablets were long overdue
In addition to the particularly thin design and the fast processor, the display of the iPad Pro is also striking: Apple is finally installing an OLED display in its Pro iPads. This ensures particularly deep blacks and high-contrast images. In typical Apple fashion, this display also has its own name: Ultra Retina XDR. This display is also reserved for the Pro models only.
The iPad Air and the iPad Pro differ in three major ways: The Pro version has the more modern display, the faster processor and the slimmer design.
Nice accessory: The new iPad Pro also gets a new Magic Keyboard, which is supposed to be as good as that of a MacBook.
New apps for professionals
The iPads come hand in hand with new apps like Final Cut Camera. It is designed to help professionals film with Apple devices at the same time and is getting its own iPad version. The same goes for the professional apps Logic Pro, which is used in music production, and Final Cut Pro.
The new apps come in special iPad versions
This is how much the new iPads cost
► The 11-inch version of the iPad Pro starts at 1199 euros. The 13-inch version starts at 1549 euros.
► The iPad Air will be available in the 11-inch version starting at 699 euros. The 13-inch version costs from 949 euros.

The new Apple Pencil
Now Apple is even making a “Pro” pencil: The new Apple Pencil looks very similar to the old one, but it has a number of new sensors that, among other things, detect when you press the pencil together. This should make it feel even more like a real pencil. However, many of the functions seem to be of more interest to artists.
The new Apple Pencil Pro will cost 149 euros
