$1.8 billion: 6 years later, this superhero saga will finally have its 3rd film! – Cinema News

The wackiest superhero family in the Pixar universe is making a comeback! 6 years after “The Incredibles 2”, a 3rd episode is officially in the works!

After many years of doubts and uncertainties, the news is finally official! Yes, the Incredibles saga will indeed have a 3rd part, 20 years after the first! At the D23 event this weekend, Disney confirmed that the Pixar teams were working on the film, without giving a specific release date.

Superheroes that bring in big bucks

The big-eared company took the opportunity to unveil the logo for this 3rd episode. Brad Bird, who also directed the first two parts, will be back to direct. As a reminder, the franchise started in 2004, bringing in $631 million at the global box office.

The sequel, released in 2018, earned twice as much greenbacks, amassing $1.2 billion internationally. The Pixar feature film is also the 5th highest-grossing animated film of all time behind Inside Out 2, Frozen 2, Super Mario Bros. and Frozen.

This time, we won't have to wait 14 long years before seeing the Parr family, aka the Incredibles, on the big screen again! Since the release of The Incredibles 2, no information about a 3rd film had circulated. However, Brad Bird and producer John Walker did not rule out this possibility.

Never say never

In 2018, the filmmaker told the EW website: “You know, you never say never, because maybe there will be an opportunity to do it. But maybe the idea I have will end up in another movie. I had an idea for an animated version of The Spirit that I ended up using in The Iron Gianthe stressed.

“You never know how these things are going to be used. We had a lot of ideas from The Incredibles 2 that could be used for another Incredibles movie or something else.”Producer John Walker concludes: “I would never rule it out.” And with over $1.8 billion in box office revenue from two films, it's understandable!

In the meantime, Brad Bird is currently in full development of the animated film Ray Gunn, for Skydance Animation, a project written with Matthew Robbins in the 90s. He will probably follow up with The Incredibles 3 after this film.
