Zelensky intends to present the “Victory Plan” at an allied meeting in Germany | news
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that his country will present a “victory plan” to its allies during a meeting in Germany next week, while Russia announced its control of a new village near the city of Pokrovsk.
Yesterday, Saturday, Zelensky wrote in a post on Telegram, “We will present a victory plan, clear and specific steps to end the war justly.”
Zelensky's statements come about a thousand days after the outbreak of the Russian war on Ukraine, and they also come after Ukraine suffered a major setback on the battlefield last Wednesday when Russian forces seized the city of Voledar in the east of the country after two years of resistance.
Zelensky will meet with US President Joe Biden and other leaders at a regular meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and other allies of Kiev at the US Ramstein Air Base in Germany on October 12.
Washington…An anti-weapon demand
Zelensky presented the plan to the US President as well as to the main candidates in the US presidential elections, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, when he recently visited Washington.
A US State Department spokesman said that the plan includes “a number of constructive steps” on which the United States will cooperate with Ukraine.
But a US official described the plan as a hostile request to obtain more weapons and lift restrictions on the use of long-range missiles.
The official added that the plan assumes Russia's eventual defeat in the war, a goal that some officials see as unrealistic.
Russian control of a village
On the other hand, Russia announced yesterday, Saturday, its control of a new village near the city of Pokrovsk, which is considered a logistical junction for the Ukrainian army in the east of the country, and Moscow forces have been gradually advancing towards it for weeks.
This village is located southeast of the city of Ukrainsk, which the Russian army took control of late last September.
In this sector of the front, Russian forces seek to control the city of Pokrovsk, which is an essential logistical junction for the Ukrainian army and where large coal mines are located.
In Russian-controlled areas in eastern Ukraine, 11 people were injured yesterday, Saturday, in artillery shelling and drone attacks on the city of Gorlivka, according to Mayor Ivan Prikhodko.
Two people were also killed in Russian strikes on Zaporozhye in southern Ukraine, according to the region's governor, Ivan Fedorov.
Russian forces control about 18% of Ukrainian territory, and Moscow announced the annexation of 4 regions of Ukraine, in addition to the Crimean Peninsula, which it annexed in 2014.
