A Pentagon official confirmed to Al Jazeera that American soldiers and others from the international coalition against ISIS were slightly injured in a drone attack on a base in the Rmelan area of Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria.
The official said that no American soldier was seriously injured in the attack that took place the day before yesterday, Friday, noting that treatment was provided to a number of members of the American forces and coalition forces.
He added that the attack caused damage to facilities for US and coalition forces, and explained that the damage is being assessed.
The US official also said that the preventive measures taken contributed to limiting the impact of the attack.
This is the second attack on US forces in the Middle East within a week, as seven US soldiers were wounded last Monday when two Katyusha rockets were fired at the Ain al-Asad air base in Anbar province in western Iraq.
The United States has 900 troops in Syria and 2,500 in Iraq, saying they are on a mission to advise and assist forces in both countries to prevent a resurgence of the Islamic State group, which seized large areas of Iraq and Syria in 2014 before being defeated.
