A man, Paul, tries to survive day to day with his two teenage sons. However, the family is not safe. Every night, after the sun goes down, “ferocious creatures” start hunting, killing any living thing that crosses their path…
Arcadian, a film written by Mike Nilon, directed by Benjamin Brewer with Nicolas Cage, Jaeden Martell, Maxwell Jenkins (II), Sadie Soverall…
A post-apocalyptic thriller
Nicolas Cage in a post-apocalyptic thriller, isn't that what we needed in the middle of summer? After Longlegs, Renfield, his cameo in The Flash or Pig, the actor is always where we don't expect him. And this is of course the case again with Arcadian, a post-apocalyptic horror film with big scary beasts.
In addition to Nicolas Cage – known for his eclectic and often eccentric roles – Arcadian features Jaeden Martell (revealed by It) who plays one of the sons of Paul and Max Jenkins.
The story is set in a dystopian future where the world as we know it has been ravaged by a catastrophe. Paul (Nicolas Cage), a devoted father, must guide his two teenage sons, Thomas (Jaeden Martell) and Joseph (Max Jenkins), through a dangerous desert landscape. Their goal is to find a safe haven, called Arcadian, while avoiding violent gangs and mutant creatures on the prowl.
A referenced film
Produced on a modest budget, Arcadian does not hide its ambitions. The film draws on cult works such as Mad Max and The Road, combining survival and family drama.
Arcadian is part of a tradition of post-apocalyptic films but focuses its narrative on human relationships and the struggle for survival. It also shows its influence from mythological stories, where the journey and the quest play essential roles.
When it was released in theaters in the United States, Arcadian did not move the crowds with a box office that remained stuck under a million dollars. But its exclusive premiere on Canal+ is an opportunity to see another film from Nicolas Cage's indescribable filmography.
Arcadian is broadcast at 9:10 p.m. on Canal+ and available on MyCanal.
