When detective fiction meets science fiction
Vortex follows the story of Ludovic, a police captain who lost Mélanie, the love of his life, to tragic death 27 years earlier in what appeared to be an accident. But when a time rift opens inside a crime scene recreated in virtual reality, Ludovic and Mélanie are able to communicate between 1998 and 2025!
Ludovic then has eleven days to change the course of history. However, to save Mélanie, he could well lose the life he has spent so long rebuilding with Pavana, his new wife, and their son Sam…
A jewel of French television
With Vortex, we are far from the usual French police series. Halfway between detective story, science fiction and romance, this fiction directed by Slimane-Baptiste Berhoun takes us on a frantic race through time.
By mixing genres, Vortex delivers an original and polished thriller. Slimane-Baptiste Berhoun directs a very inspired series here that stands out as much for its impeccable aesthetic as for its successful special effects that perfectly serve the story without ever overwhelming it.
The screenplay by Camille Couasse and Sarah Farkas is simply captivating. It must be said that the writers managed to create emotional tension throughout the series. Indeed, each episode reveals the pieces of a complex puzzle, keeping viewers in suspense until the final episode.
Poignant performances
If the script and the staging are bold, the series would probably be nothing without the performances of Tomer Sisley and Camille Claris. On screen, their alchemy combined with the power of their acting plays a crucial role in the success of the series. Tension, emotion and tenderness are all there.
In the role of Ludovic, Tomer Sisley is overwhelming and offers a striking intensity and vulnerability. With Vortex, he undoubtedly signs one of the most accomplished performances of his career.
In short, Vortex is a bold and intelligent series that stands out for its plot, its impeccable staging and the performance of its actors. A work not to be missed!
