The OnePlus 7 Pro is one of the best smartphones of 2019. The new handset from the Chinese manufacturer has arrived with the aim of taking on competitors like Samsung, and the Galaxy S10 Plus could be in serious trouble. Here's why.
OnePlus 7 Pro has an advantage in the screen
This year OnePlus has brought a notch-free screen and 'stole' (so to speak) the curved sides that are a characteristic of Samsung. In fact, both the OnePlus 7 Pro and the Galaxy S10 Plus have a curved display on both sides, but the Chinese company's screen, in addition to being physically larger, also achieves a greater screen-to-body ratio due to the absence of notches or holes, the latter a characteristic of the Galaxy S10 Plus.

Another feature shared by both screens is HDR10+ certification, but the OnePlus 7 Pro has a feature that Samsung's doesn't have and that can normally only be found on gaming smartphones: a 90Hz refresh rate, which promises much smoother movement on the screen.

As we said before, this year OnePlus finally managed to eliminate the notch using a solution that is very popular among many fans – placing the front camera inside a “pop-up” mechanism that slides automatically from the top edge of the smartphone. In turn, owners of the Galaxy S10 Plus have to live with a hole in the top right corner of the screen.
A neck-and-neck hardware duel
From a hardware perspective, the OnePlus 7 Pro and the Galaxy S10 Plus can compete on practically equal terms. Both are equipped with the best SoC available on the market, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 (or the equivalent Exynos 9820 on Samsung smartphones in Europe), accompanied by 8GB of RAM and with internal memory starting at 128GB. However, the OnePlus device has much higher read and write speeds on the internal memory, thanks to the use of memory in the new UFS 3.0 standard.

Other than that, both smartphones are very similar, but it's worth noting that the Galaxy S10 Plus has water resistance (IP68 certification), wireless charging (including reverse charging), a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSD slot for expanding storage. All features that OnePlus fans will have to do without.
In terms of battery, the OnePlus 7 Pro has a 4,000 mAh module, a good advantage over the 3,700 mAh of the previous generation. On paper, there is a slight disadvantage, at least in terms of capacity, compared to the 4,100 mAh battery of the Galaxy S10 Plus. However, we expect, as usual, that OnePlus will outperform the competition with its software optimization that promises two days of battery life.

Finally, the OnePlus 7 Pro supports Warp Charge 30 technology (a 30-watt charger), which is faster than the 18-watt charging on the Galaxy S10 Plus. This is certainly a plus point for OnePlus.
Cameras that promise good results
This year Samsung has shown great results with its camera thanks to AI support, improved image processing software and the addition of a new ultra-wide-angle lens, an increasingly popular feature that has made smartphone photography more versatile and fun than before.

The configuration chosen by Samsung this year is as follows:
- 12MP main sensor with OIS, variable aperture and “dual pixel”
- Ultra wide-angle lens with up to 123-degree viewing angle and 16MP sensor
- Telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom
Hidden inside the holes in the screen you will find two more cameras, one 10MP (with f/1.8 aperture) and another 8MP (with f/2.2 aperture), which is mainly dedicated to detecting depth of field.
OnePlus, on the other hand, has a completely renewed photography system to correct past mistakes. One aspect that fans of the brand have always complained about is the quality of the images, especially in low light conditions, a problem resulting from a lack of attention to the software and which many solved by installing the Google camera app.

However, the OnePlus 7 Pro benefits from the incredible capabilities of Sony's 48MP IMX586 sensor, accompanied by an ultra-wide-angle lens with a field of view of up to 117 degrees and a 16MP sensor and finally a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and an 8MP sensor. The front camera, which jumps out from the top of the device, has a 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor.
We therefore expect the results to be comparable (or better) to those of competing devices using the same sensor, including models from Xiaomi, OPPO and Honor.

OnePlus reigns supreme once again thanks to price
We come to the end of this comparison with the topic that is certainly most important to customers: the price. Here there is a big difference and, as always, the Galaxy S10 Plus is the more expensive device of the two with its list price starting at $ 999 for the 8 / 128GB variant and reaching $ 1599.99 for the extreme version of 12 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.

On the other hand, the OnePlus 7 Pro will be available from May 21 in three colors: Mirror Gray, Almond and Nebula Blue. Prices start at $669 for the model with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage (only in Mirror Gray).
There are also models with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage in all three colors for $699, and a model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, which will only be offered in Nebula Blue, for $749.
