New on Netflix: wouldn't you like to be the characters in this original and stylish thriller – Cinema News
You like slashers, thrillers and science fiction, then this new Netflix film is for you! Discover “Inner Game”, an adventure from which you will not emerge unscathed.
Netflix has just released an original and stylized thriller, which combines horror and science fiction, that you won't want to miss. This is a film that caused a sensation at various festivals in the United States, such as Sundance and SXSW, and is worth a look now that it is available on the platform.
Would you like to participate in this game?
You will have to remember the name of Greg Jardin, director of trailers for Netflix, clips and short films, because his first feature film is worth the detour. Notice to fans of slashers, twist films, stories with a futuristic tendency and gripping thrillers, his first production, entitled Inner Game, deserves your attention.
The pitch is already promising: “A pre-wedding party turns into a nightmare when a friend shows up with a mysterious suitcase”. And the cast is made up of young emerging talents such as Brittany Ann O'Grady (The White Lotus), James Morosini (The Sex Live of College Girls), Gavin Leatherwood (The New Adventures of Sabrina), Alycia Debnam-Carey (Fear The Walking Dead), Devon Terrell (Barry), David W. Thompson (Panic), Madison Davenport (Sharp Objects), Nina Bloomgarden (The Idea of Being With You) and Reina Hardesty (The Flash).
This cheerful cast plays a group of school friends coming together for a bridal shower of one of their own. Everyone has moved on in life and Ruben's wedding is an opportunity to reunite and make up for lost time.
In the middle of the evening, a surprise guest, who is another of their long-lost comrades, arrives with a suitcase containing a mysterious machine that allows people to change bodies. The new arrival then encourages the rest of the gang to participate in a twisted game: swap bodies and minds and try to guess who is who.
It's what we are inside that counts
If the game is rather exciting at the beginning, it quickly turns into an existential nightmare because tempers will quickly heat up. By exchanging bodily envelopes, the friends discover hidden truths, repressed desires and old grudges.
If the French title directly refers to the playful and comic side of the feature film, the original title “It's What's Inside” plays on the theme of exchange body, but above all on the fact that what counts is what is inside.
Because the bodily envelope only serves as a mask for the true personalities which really reveal themselves when they think they are unstoppable. In addition to the brilliant and original plot which questions its audience and is based on numerous twists, Inner Game is also worth for the mirrored performance of its actors and for its pop, vintage aesthetic and its controlled and rhythmic staging.
The film “Inner Game” is available on Netflix.
