After being a success in bookstores with more than 10 million copies sold worldwide since its release in 2016, the bestseller It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover arrived in theaters this Wednesday, August 14. Did the film convince its first viewers?

While it gets an average of 3.1 out of 5 from the press (8 reviews), and 3.6 out of 5 from the public, thanks to the 160 people* who have rated it to date (including 24 reviews), here is a small selection of spectator opinions.

Starring Blake Lively, Justin Badoni (who also directs the film), Brandon Sklenar, Jenny Slate, Amy Morton and Hasan Minhaj, the film follows Lily Bloom, a young woman who had a difficult childhood due to her abusive father. She embarks on a new life in Boston where she realizes her dream: opening a flower shop.

From her chance encounter with charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Baldoni) an intense connection is born – but as the two fall deeply in love, Lily begins to see aspects of Ryle that remind her of her parents' relationship… Novelist Colleen Hoover drew on her parents' story to write her novel.

Cinema (5/5): “This movie is a great discovery, it really respects the book. I think Blake Lively is perfect in the role of Lily…I didn't see the time go by. I really recommend this movie.

Brandon Benoit YT (4/5): “Never Again is a film with a beautiful and touching story. The characters are so endearing and their stories are so beautiful. The ending is magical. A very beautiful work.

Camille G. (4 / 5): “I advise you to read the book after your viewing, this will allow you to better understand the emotions and the involvement of each of the characters who accompany Lily throughout her story. The adaptation is very faithful. The understanding of space time is for me the only flaw, it can give the impression of a “quickie” while the story takes place over years. But go for it, you should love it.

Young criticism (3/5): “A film whose message will inevitably be criticized, just like the book from which it is adapted. However, it is unfortunately a subject that is still relevant today. Clearly this type of production does not really belong in a movie theater but rather on a platform (typically a Netflix film). But personally, I really liked the film, although it was a bit long. The classic combo: love triangle, violent father and torn wife still works on me. The actors are pretty good and the staging is not too bad.

Maud Karmy (2/5): “A basic film, which is rushed. Everything happens much too quickly. The actors raise the score a little but sincerely very disappointed with the film.”

Anaé Larregle (1/5): “I find that the film is really poorly directed, the camera shots are not great, on the other hand Blake Lively plays super well! The story of the book was not respected, we do not find the same feelings as in the book, the film is not deep enough and does not explain well what the book explains correctly, that is to say domestic violence.

Nevermore – It ends with us is currently in theaters.
