Nautilus on France 2: what is this series inspired by Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea worth? – News Series

Nautilus will be broadcast this evening on France 2. But then, what is this series inspired by Jules Verne's cult novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, worth?

What is it about?

Nautilus follows Nemo's mission to get revenge on the East India Mercantile Company, which has taken everything from him. Nemo boldly steals a prototype submarine from the penal colony where he is imprisoned and escapes into the ocean with a motley crew of prisoners.

He plans to reach the legendary Viking treasure buried in the Pillars of Halvar. But first he must earn the trust of his crew and escape the clutches of the ruthless East India Mercantile Company, who will do whatever it takes to stop him.

Nautilus from this Monday, August 12 at 9:10 p.m. on France 2

Who is it with?

Developed by James Dormer for television, the series is carried by a French, British and Australian cast. Among them are Shazad Latif (Nemo), Georgia Flood (Humility Lucas), Céline Menville (Loti), Thierry Frémont (Benoit) who play the main characters of this epic adventure.

Luke Arnold (Captain Billy Millais), Jacob Collins-Levy (Captain Youngblood), Damien Garvey (Director Crawley) play the antagonists of the series.

In parallel, Kayden Price (Blaster), Benedict Hardie (Edward Cuff), Arlo Green (Turan), Tyrone Ngatai (Kai), Ling Cooper Tang (Suyin), Pachardo Mzembe (Boniface), Andrew Shaw (Jiacomo), Chum Ehelepola ( Jagadish) and Ashan Kumar (Ranbir) play the crew members of the Nautilus.

Is it worth a look?

Inspired by Jules Verne's iconic novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, the series focuses on Nemo's youth and offers us a look at his first steps as Captain of the Nautilus.

We discover how the crew was formed and especially how almost family bonds were formed between them. Between mystical creatures, epic legends and big-hearted pirates, this adventure within the submarine will leave no one indifferent.

One of the main assets of this fiction in ten episodes remains its tone adapted to all audiences. Young and old alike will have a good time watching the adventures of these oh-so-endearing prisoners.

Romance and humor are present throughout the episodes and provide a contrast to the darker trials our heroes face. Without telling you too much, Nemo hides a heavy past from his crew and it is only when he is able to confide that he will become the strong and charismatic Captain he is destined to be.

More generally, the staging is a bit old-fashioned and could destabilize those used to big productions on streaming platforms. But this gives it a nostalgic dimension that is not unpleasant when you let yourself be carried away by the story.

Special mention for Shazad Latif (Nemo) which brings complexity and vulnerability to the main character in an almost perfect balance. We also appreciate the presence of two French actors, Céline Menville and Thierry Frémont, who play two charming heroes. We become attached to them from the first minutes of the pilot.

In short, Nautilus is a family comedy that will delight fans of the genre. Combining humor and drama, it can be enjoyed without any hassle.
