Germany. Whether people can live a life of dignity and their basic rights are fulfilled depends largely on the conditions under which they work for a living. Is the pay enough to feed the family? Are they protected from pollutants and other dangers, violence and exploitation? Are there unions that enforce workers' rights? Not only governments, but also internationally active companies are responsible for this. In December 2016, the German government adopted an action plan.

What does the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAP) contain?

German companies should respect human rights – both at their locations in Germany and abroad and along their supply and value chains. Germany is thus adapting the United Nations' Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. In line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Germany is using the NAP to contribute to the protection of human rights worldwide and to a social design of globalization. The NAP is part of the Federal Government's CSR policy.
