Medical service: Fraudsters request account details from insured persons | Life & Knowledge
This new scam is particularly explosive: The Bavarian Medical Service (MD) is warning of criminals who pose as MDs and request sensitive data from insured persons. This scam does not only affect Bavaria, similar incidents are also becoming more frequent in other federal states.
The trick is particularly mean, as the real medical service also calls insured people. This makes it particularly difficult to identify the fraudsters.
In a recent case, an insured person received a call from a supposed MD employee. cheater asked her to reveal her account number. The insured reacted immediately, hung up and informed both the police and the MD about the incident.
MD Bayern points out that although its employees regularly contact insured persons by telephone, they never ask for bank details. Unannounced telephone inquiries that collect sensitive data or request certain actions should be seen as a clear warning sign.
Insured persons who receive similar calls should, if they suspect a Offense immediately inform the police and file a report if necessary.
