Propain Ekano 2 CF in the test

We tested the Propain Ekano 2 CF extensively on the trails and checked what the E-Enduro can do. And how does the Sram powertrain system actually perform uphill? You can find out how the bike performed in the test and who it is suitable for in our four-page test report.

Propain Ekano CF: The first E-Carboni from Swabia!

Previously, the Ekano from the German mail-order company from Vogt/Allgäu was made exclusively from aluminum – and with a Shimano motor. Now the carbon Ekano is one of four e-MTBs that comes with the brand new Sram Powertrain e-MTB system. The drive, which is based on the Brose S-Mag motor with 90 Nm torque, places emphasis on clean looks, simple, intuitive operation and the integration of the transmission including the autoshift function.

Propain uses the smaller of the two Sram batteries: the battery offers 630 Wh from 21700 cells, sits in the down tube and can be “tilted” forward out of the frame. The drive peripherals are completed by the Sram transmission gears, the bridge top tube display and (usually) the pod controller as the operating unit.

Frame sizes, Pro10 rear triangle

The Ekano 2 CF is available in four sizes between S and XL. The bike will be available in three colors: “Carbon Raw”, “Deep Forest” and the brand new “Mighty Mango”. Decals and head tube badges can of course be individually selected using the configurator. The CF shares more than just the Pro10 rear triangle with the AL Ekano. The geometry is also almost identical to the aluminum counterpart – no wonder, since the bike was only introduced in August. The seat and head tube length, reach (455 mm in M), and steering angle (64°) plus seat angle are the same. Only the chainstays (453 mm in all sizes) and wheelbase (1261 mm) are 8 mm longer.

There will be three pre-configured variants, and you can also put together your dream bike using the configurator.

Prices: More expensive – and more classy

While the Ekano 2 AL with Shimano motor is available from 4994 euros, the prices of the carbon brother only start at 7994 euros. The bike then comes with a GX Eagle transmission group. Aside from the configurator, there are two other builds to choose from for 9999 (Ultimate, X0 Transmission) or 11,299 euros (Factory, XX Transmission).

To enable cheaper builds, Propain uses a mechanical seat post on the Base and Factory variants. Since the lever would collide with the pod controller, which actually controls the powertrain, the bikes come without a pod. As a result, the ride mode can only be changed on the display – and the push assist (hold down the upper pod button) is not available.
