In the United States, this Marvel film will be banned for unaccompanied minors under 17! – Cinema News

Expected in our theaters on December 18, after a handful of postponements, “Kraven the Hunter” will be rated R in the United States (prohibited to unaccompanied minors) due to its violence.

In a world where calendars weren't yet affected by COVID and the actors and writers' strike hadn't happened, we'd be talking about Kraven the Hunter in the past tense.

Originally scheduled for January 2023, the feature film dedicated to Spider-Man's enemy was first postponed to October of the same year. Then to the end of August 2024. If all goes well (because we should remain wary until it is here), the film will be available in our country on December 18.

With a significant change from Venom, Morbius and Madame Web, other Sony opuses from the Spider-Man catalog in which Spider-Man is conspicuous by his absence.

Directed by JC Chandor (All is Lost, A Most Violent Year), Kraven the Hunter will be rated R in the United States. This means that it will be prohibited for children under 17 years old without an adult. For reasons of “bloody violence and vulgarity.”

As for France, we'll have to wait a little longer. Nothing tells us that it will be banned for under-12s, like Deadpool & Wolverine, and it will depend on its level of violence, because the language issue is more flexible than in the United States, where two “F**k” automatically switch a movie from PG-13 to R.

This will be the first title in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSSU) to receive this classification in the United States. And the third (and final) superhero film of 2024, after Deadpool & Wolverine and Joker: Madness for Two.

No Spider-Man on the program?

Once considered to play Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man, before Andrew Garfield hit the jackpot, Aaron Taylor-Johnson will lend his features and muscles to Sergei Kravinoff, aka Kraven. And will offer himself a third superhero universe after those of Kick-Ass and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

He will star opposite Fred Hechinger and Ariana DeBose, who will play the Chameleon and Calypso, the anti-hero's half-brother and occasional companion, respectively. But also Russell Crowe, Alessandro Nivola and Christopher Abbott, in what should be an origin story.

According to the official synopsis, Kraven the Hunter will tell “the bloody genesis of one of the most iconic super-villains in the Marvel universe before his famous vendetta against Spider-Man”which suggests that Spider-Man will not be in the game. The violence, on the other hand, will be there given the American classification.
