He never really felt comfortable in his body. “I could afford expensive clothes from luxury brands,” says Sezayi Er, “but often they weren't available in my size or they just didn't suit me.” This fact depressed him – and it did for many years. But 2020 was supposed to change everything. The 36-year-old started losing weight and lost 35 kilograms in eleven months.
“2020 was a decisive year for me, in which I changed a lot mentally and physically,” says the man from Upper Palatinate. He has experienced a positive change in his career and health. To date, he has lost a total of 40 kilograms and currently weighs around 90 kilograms. “That has improved my life in many ways.”
The main reason was the fact that he felt uncomfortable in his body – no matter what clothes he was wearing. “It's painful when you can afford something but it doesn't fit. At some point I said: I can't go on like this, I have to change my life.” In addition, the family doctor made it clear to the young man that his values were “really bad” for his age.
Since then, Sezayi Er, the real estateinvestor and Telekom employee, regularly works out with a trainer. “I invest in my body because it's worth it to me,” says the 36-year-old. In an interview with Business Insider, the Bavarian reveals his 5 best tips that helped him lose weight.
1. Change your diet
“I have radically changed my diet and started eating healthily,” says Sezayi Er. He now eats a lot of vegetables, salmon, protein bread and protein shakes. “I have started turning over the food in the supermarket and looking at the nutritional values.” This way, he says, you can see that many foods seem healthy at first glance, but in reality they are not. Looking closely helps you lose weight. “It makes you shop much more consciously.”
2. Find a training partner
Sezayi He often trains with a friend. That is extremely important to him. “My training partner got me through the toughest phases,” he admits. “We agreed to meet up for training and no one wanted to cancel – no matter how bad the weather was.” The duo went jogging in the summer when it was hot and cold, as well as in the winter when it was icy and freezing. This consistency is important and commitments help.

There are various videos and trends circulating on social media that allow you to lose a lot of kilos in just a few weeks. Sezayi He just warns against it. “It took me eleven months to lose weight, but it was the healthier way.” Instead of relying on quick results, he chose the slow but much more sustainable route. “Mental strength and psychological cleansing through activities like running in the forest were also crucial.”
As a real estate investor and manager of two telecom shops, Sezayi Er is a busy man. His family is just as important to him, so he devotes a lot of time to them. But not having enough time is no excuse for not losing weight, he says. “I consciously took time for myself and my body. Even though training was often not fun, I stuck with it – especially when the weather was bad.” It's about making yourself a priority.
All tips are important, but the right attitude and a clear goal are essential. “There are no problems, there is a solution,” is a saying that has always motivated Sezayi Er. “This attitude helped me not to give up and to continue to work on myself.” It is important to go through life positively and to always remain positive, even when faced with setbacks.
