HPI on TF1: will season 5 really be the last? “Nothing obliges us to finish the series” explain the writers – News Series on TV

This is THE question that concerns all “HPI” fans: will season 5, which has already been ordered by TF1, be the last? AlloCiné asked the question to the two screenwriters so that they could tell us more.

The rumor has been circulating for several months. While season 4 of HPI is currently broadcast on Thursday evenings on TF1, many media have already announced that season 5, for which filming should begin soon, would be the last.

Last May, Audrey Fleurot declared to Télé Poche magazine: “A priori, the fifth season will be the last, but we are giving ourselves the opportunity to come back for a special evening. Or maybe go to the cinema if we find the right angle.”

A cryptic statement which therefore suggests the worst for the detective series, which nevertheless continues to attract millions of viewers during the broadcast of new episodes.

Soon the end?

For the moment, TF1 has not confirmed whether season 5 of HPI would indeed be the last. The channel is probably waiting for the audiences for season 4, as well as the green light from the actors and writers. “It will depend on many factors linked to the availability of the actors and their desires.”, explained one of the channel’s press officers.

What I find nice about HPI is that nothing forces us to finish the series”, added Alice Chegaray-Breugnot, the screenwriter of the detective series during an interview with AlloCiné. “There are so many series that end due to lack of audience, or for the wrong reasons.”

And it's very hard when you're someone else because you have to rush an ending that you didn't really choose. And in this case, whether to stop or continue will be a collective choice.”

So it's a huge comfort because we can choose our ending in agreement with TF1 which doesn't push us in one direction or the other. It's a comfort to be able to say that we have the opportunity to write history from start to finish. This is something very rare”.

And conversely, it was a comfort for us, for season 3 and now, for season 4, to write our scenarios knowing that we have a sequel”, added Julien Anscutter, also a screenwriter. “When we announce that Morgane is pregnant, and that there are three potential fathers, we can't do that if we don't know that we're going to come back the year after. Season 4, we were really able to work on it as a preparation for the following season.”

TV films in preparation?

And even if season 5 of HPI were to be the last, that would not necessarily mark the end of the detective series. The writers are indeed leaving themselves the possibility of continuing the adventures of Morgane and Karadec through off-season episodes, as Mehdi Nebbou confirmed to Télé Star. “It is not yet confirmed, but we are also talking about event episodes, and perhaps even a feature film for the cinema.”

And the writers would even consider making a musical opus. “Audrey would be very keen” Alice Chegaray-Breugnot confided to our colleagues at Leisure TV.

I would really like that, but it's an additional challenge because you have to write the songs and the choreographies require filming time, so it needs to be planned very early in the writing. It could be an off season

Catch the last episodes of season 4 of HPI this Thursday, October 3 from 9:10 p.m. on TF1. The entire season is already available on the TF1+ streaming platform.
