The finale of season 4 of HPI was once again full of twists and turns for Morgane (Audrey Fleurot) and Karadec (Mehdi Nebbou). After having to give birth in an emergency, helped by the criminal they were tracking down, the red tornado finds herself in the hospital with all her family and colleagues.
But while everyone is convinced that Timothée is the father of the baby, Eliott, Morgane's son reveals that TG does not mean “Timothée Guichard”, but “Genetic Test”. It is at this moment that we discover with amazement that the father is actually Karadec. A turnaround that will surprise more than one person.
Why did you choose Karadec as your father?
During the launch of season 4 last May, Alice Chegaray-Breugnot and Julien Anscutter, the writing directors of HPI, told AlloCiné that they had chosen the identity of the father based on the character who could offer them the more intrigue for season 5.
At the time, no one except them knew that Karadec was the lucky one. In light of this revelation, we spoke once again with them so that they could explain to us the origin of this thorny choice, which should please fans from the beginning.
“We have studied all possible options. And it's true that seeing Morgane with a new baby from a father other than Karadec ultimately did not renew their relationship. They found themselves almost at a status quo”, explained Alice Chegaray-Breugnot to us.
“She would have had yet another baby with another father, but that changed nothing for their relationship. Whereas, being co-parents without being together while also being roommates and teammates, it seemed much more fun to play.”
“For example, we will be able to explore the differences in education between Karadec and Morgane. We had this feeling that we were going to have comedic springs that we hadn't yet exploited between the two of them.”
“It also allows us to see their relationship and what it changes for them to be parents. It's no longer the usual chatter because there are responsibilities. It really felt like it was launching season 5 in a totally different way.”
Why play with viewers' nerves?
As usual, the writers decided to play with the viewers' nerves until the last minute. A suspense which also has its importance in the construction of the relationship between Morgane and Karadec.
“We loved the fact that Karadec was there for the birth, even though it wasn't really his child.”, Julien Anscutter explained to us. “We thought it was a moving scene, because it was a way of showing that the two characters love each other, but that there are obstacles to their relationship. And we also sought to surprise the viewer. We wanted to reveal the identity of the father as late as possible, because that's the issue of the season.”
This late discovery also allowed the writers to develop the relationship between our two heroes. “It was important to have a moment where Morgane puts Karadec's feelings first by deciding to open a DNA test, knowing that the result may not please her, because she is afraid that Karadec will attaches to a baby who is not his. It's still the season where Morgane reflects on her karma. And there she does a truly altruistic act”, concluded the screenwriter.
