How to Get Around Without Internet
Do you have limited data or want to find the perfect route abroad without Wi-Fi or mobile data? With Google Maps' offline function, routes, map sections or entire cities are available without an internet connection so you can reach your destination. In this guide, we show you how to use Google Maps offline.
Requirements for using Google Maps offline
Before you go crazy downloading maps from Google Maps, make sure you have enough storage space on your smartphone. Offline navigation also has some restrictions: cyclists and pedestrians don’t have access to route guidance. Also, real-time traffic data isn’t updated for drivers.
As a result, you won’t be shown an alternative route if traffic conditions change. We also recommend that you set your smartphone settings so that Google only updates maps using Wi-Fi. This will minimize your mobile data usage.
