Sending a text message to the wrong person or discovering errors in a message after it's been sent can be frustrating, but fortunately iPhone users have the option to unsend or edit messages in the official iMessage app.
How do you unsend a message in iMessage?
This feature only works with iMessage messages, which are part of Apple's secure messaging service available on iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and Apple Watch, and SMS text messages cannot be unsent when messaging devices from other companies. You can unsend an iMessage message by:
- Open the iMessage app, then go to the conversation that contains the message you want to unsend.
- Press and hold the message bubble until a pop-up menu appears.
- Select Undo Send from the menu. The message bubble will disappear, indicating that it has been deleted from your device and the recipient's device.
Note that you only have two minutes after sending the message to use the Unsend feature, and a log will appear indicating the unsend process on both sides.

How do you edit a message in iMessage?
If you discover an error in your message or need to make a simple edit to it, the “Edit” option is the right choice. Note that you have 15 minutes to edit the sent “iMessage” message, and you can edit it up to 5 times, through the following steps:
- Open the app, then go to the conversation that contains the message you want to edit.
- Press and hold the message bubble until the pop-up menu appears.
- Select “Edit” from the menu.
- Edit the message as needed, then to save the changes, click on the (✓) mark, and to cancel the changes, click on the (×) mark.
After the message is edited, a “Edited” label will appear under the text, and both parties can click on this label to view previous versions of the message, ensuring transparency that all edits are visible to both parties.
