Harris introduces her VP, launches scathing attack on Trump | News
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz launched a scathing attack on Republican candidate Donald Trump in their first appearance together.
Harris said at a campaign rally introducing her running mate Tim Walz that she knows people like Donald Trump, adding that her previous work as a prosecutor had enabled her to pursue different types of criminals.
In his first public comments since being selected, Tim Walz accused former President and Republican nominee Trump of being a divisive man who only cares about serving himself. He stressed that the upcoming elections will determine the direction the country will take.
In announcing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, Harris said in a message to supporters that he has a wealth of experience and a proven track record and will bring the same leadership qualities to her campaign and the vice president's office.
Tim Walz, 60, is the governor of a key Midwestern state in the November election, and is known for taking what have been seen as progressive measures since taking office five years ago.
Welcome to the Democratic Camp
In Democratic reactions to the choice, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised Harris' choice of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate, saying he is a moderate Democrat with a great vision for the working class and veterans.
For his part, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who was a potential vice presidential candidate, affirmed his full support for Harris, saying that her selection was a very personal decision.
Shapiro described Governor Walz as an exceptionally strong addition, and said he would help Harris move the United States forward.
For his part, US President Joe Biden said that Harris's selection of Governor Tim Walz as her running mate was a great decision and represented a strong voice for workers and the middle class in the United States.
Biden added that Harris and Walz will be the strongest defenders of American freedom and democracy and will ensure that America continues to lead the world, as he put it. He concluded by calling on all Democrats and Americans to stand behind Harris and Walz's candidacy.
In contrast, the Trump campaign said in a statement that Tim Walz is a dangerous liberal extremist, just like Kamala Harris, they said.
