Harris gets 49%, Trump 45% in polls | News
Opinion polls show that Kamala Harris, the US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate, has made progress over Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump.
Harris leads Trump 49 percent to 45 percent among registered voters, according to an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll.
According to the poll, Harris leads Trump by 51% to 45% among likely voters.
The online poll was conducted from August 9 to 13 among 2,336 American adults, including 1,901 registered voters, Bloomberg News reported on Sunday.
The results have a margin of error of plus or minus 2 points for American adults, and 5.2 points among registered voters.
An ABC/Ipsos poll conducted on July 26-27 showed that support for Kamala Harris had increased among Americans since President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the presidential race.
The numbers come as Harris' campaign raised $200 million during the week she joined the 2024 presidential race.
The momentum of the presidential race has shifted dramatically since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race on July 21, and Harris entered it in a development that has galvanized the Democratic Party's electoral base.
A New York Times/Siena University poll released Saturday showed Harris has put Democrats back in the running in four states that Trump was heading to easily beat Biden.
While polls show a tight race, swing states, particularly Pennsylvania, will decide the outcome under the US Electoral College system. Trump narrowly lost the state to Biden in 2020, but he has strong support in rural areas and small towns.
