Garanti BBVA's CEO has changed – Sözcü

Mahmut Akten, who has experience in banking and finance, has become the new CEO of Garanti BBVA.

According to the statement made by the bank, Akten was also appointed as BBVA Türkiye Country Manager.

Mahmut Akten will begin his duties following the completion of the necessary legal procedures and the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency's permits.

WHO IS MAHMUT AKTEN?

Akten, who holds a BS in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Boğaziçi University and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University, began his career at global construction materials company Holcim in 1999. He joined McKinsey&Co. in 2006, working in the Boston and Istanbul offices. Akten joined Garanti BBVA in 2012 and served as the Executive Vice President of Retail Banking until 2022, before being appointed Executive Vice President of Corporate, Investment Banking and Global Markets.

BBVA Group CEO Onur Genç, whose views were included in the statement, said, “Recep Baştuğ successfully managed Garanti BBVA during a period of significant macroeconomic and competitive challenges.
