Elon Musk: Important function on X will be abolished | Life & Knowledge
Many X users don't like this move at all. Tech billionaire reportedly creates Elon Musk (53) plays an important role on his social media platform. The block function should only be half effective after a change.
The plan: Blocked accounts can no longer interact with the posts of their “blockers” – but can still read them. On Monday, Musk confirmed web developer Nima Owji's post, responding to X: “It’s high time this happened.”
The US tech portal The Verge reported, citing an X insider, that they wanted to implement the change because users would be able to see other people's posts by creating another user account.
Musk has wanted to get rid of the block function for a long time
Musk has been redesigning the platform according to his ideas since he took over in 2022. He had also thought out loud about abolishing the block function in its familiar form more than a year ago. At that time he said that blocking simply no longer made sense. His development team started implementing it in May.
X thought about the change from the perspective of blocked users: they wanted to give them the opportunity to “identify and report bad content”.
Many users upset
But many users who decided to block individual accounts for good reasons reacted with disappointment to the announcement. Protest comments piled up under the Musk post.
► One user wrote: “This is the worst idea since the rebranding.” Another commented: “There are many reasons why you don't want certain individuals to be able to simply see all posts.” Another response to the Musk announcement: “This is not good at all. Many people block abusive accounts for security reasons. You’ve just gotten rid of that now.”
It is not yet known when the new function will be rolled out.
