Build Turbo-PAX in 20 minutes: BILD does the test | Life & Knowledge

Everyone knows Ikea. What annoys many people is the often laborious assembly. Always all those screws. The Swedes are focusing on new turbo furniture! The advertisement says: The Pax wardrobe body should be put together in 20 minutes. I, the BILD reporter, have to check that. I have already put together a lot of shelves and wardrobes in my life. But I didn't enjoy it. I'm taking on PAX. Can 20 minutes really be done – or will the wardrobe drive me mad again?

Fast and without tools

The new wardrobe doesn't need any screws or tools. Its body is held together by a minimal plug-in system. This almost halves the number of assembly steps from 22 to 14. Screws? None. Hammer? You don't need one.

Another advantage: The back panel does not need to be attached with nails as usual. It is already glued on and fits into the packaging thanks to its foldability.

This makes assembly child's play. Of course, as with all IKEA instructions, there were pictures that I didn't understand right away. But overall, assembly is actually very easy.

Also feasible for smaller people

In contrast to the previous model, I had to build the Turbo PAX Do not work on the floor. Due to the folding back wall, the cabinet is constructed standing upright and therefore does not need to be set up.

This is a big advantage for smaller people like me! At 1.68 meters, I'm not tiny, but I'm not tall either. Up until now, I haven't been able to put the body together on my own. I simply don't have the size – or the strength – to do it.

I always had to get help from bigger men. That's absolutely not necessary with the Turbopax.

Okay, maybe I'll have to ask a gentleman for help with the doors later. Unfortunately, those annoying screws are still needed to assemble them.

Set up in 20 minutes

The Swedish furniture manufacturer advertises that the body can be assembled in 20 minutes. In the BILD test, it took me 24 minutes. Does that make me a PAX loser?

No, I still pass the test because I had to coordinate with the photographer and cameraman during the assembly. Without these circumstances, I would certainly have assembled the cabinet in under 20 minutes.

My conclusion about the new Turbo-PAX: Assemble the body in 20 minutes by yourself? No problem! And the best thing – which IKEA surprisingly doesn't advertise – I didn't have a screaming fit, didn't insult the cupboard and didn't throw any tools across the room. In a good mood and proud of my work, I was able to turn off the stopwatch after 24 minutes and pat myself on the back.
