In the third and final week of rehabilitation, the grandmother of two from Schleswig-Holstein several red spots on her upper body. “They were itchy spots. Then one day they were clearly visible on the front of her shoulder. I knew immediately what they were: bed bug bites.”

Dagmar J. presented herself to the attending physician in the hospital But according to Dagmar J., the doctor did not examine the spots! Instead, he suggested that Ms. J. take a precautionary medication to combat allergic reactions to the blood thinner that the 69-year-old had to take after the operation.

At home, the horror with the bedbugs really started

Only after the urgent request to examine the areas with a magnifying glass did the doctor finally take a photo with his cell phone and look at it together with the patient. Dagmar J.: “The matter was 100 percent clear, Bed bugs had caused the bites. The doctor went to his desk and gave me the order to be transported back home immediately. The rehab was ended prematurely.”

Bed bug hotspot hospital is extremely dangerous

DVS boss Manfred Bolz (62): “Bed bug infestations in hospitals are a daily reality for us. Such a hotspot is extremely dangerous because the pests can be spread unnoticed by patients in large numbers. In hospitals, people actually expect a high level of protection, but they are obviously afraid of their reputation, so everything is kept under wraps. It is imperative that the spread is stopped immediately. This is expensive and very time-consuming.”

Dagmar J. has contacted a law firm in Hanover and wants to sue the clinic. Her lawyer Dr. Carsten Fricke told BILD: “Based on its contractual duty of care, the clinic should have acted immediately, Pest control and inform the patient fully, instead of simply sending her home secretly.”

In response to Bild's inquiry, the clinic briefly and verbally denied the allegations over the phone: “Bedbug bites could not be detected.”
