Apple has changed its mixed reality plans and temporarily stopped the development of the “Vision Pro 2”, the successor model to its data glasses.
An employee of a supplier confirmed this, reports the technology portal “The Information”According to the report, the tech giant initially only wants to work on the development and marketing of a lower-performance and more affordable Device version work. A new Vision product with extended functions is therefore on hold for the time being.
The Vision Pro, which is not yet available in Europe, costs a barely affordable $3,499 – and is therefore selling poorly. Demand has dropped significantly, according to observers.
Price reduction instead of further development
The cheaper device is scheduled to be launched by the end of 2025 at the latest. The price: similar to a high-end iPhone like the Pro Max, i.e. around 1,500 US dollars. Apple but seems to be having problems reducing production costs without sacrificing too many functions. Therefore, the company probably no longer has the capacity for extensive further development, but is now focusing everything on solving the problems with the cheaper Vision Pro and delivering it on time.
Apple introduced the Vision Pro for the first time a year ago. The data glasses will also be available to order in Germany from June 28, 2024. Current price: 3,999 euros.
