On Tuesday morning, Israeli warplanes carried out an air strike on the Ain al-Hilweh camp in southern Lebanon, targeting the home of Major General Munir al-Maqdah, head of the Lebanese branch of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the military wing of the Fatah movement.
Agence France-Presse quoted an official in the camp as saying that the Israeli raid targeted the house of Major General Al-Maqdah’s son, confirming that it resulted in casualties, but he did not confirm whether Al-Maqdah was inside the house.
Last August, Israel announced that it had assassinated, in a similar air strike, Munir’s brother, Khalil al-Maqdah, who it confirmed that day was one of the leaders of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
Yesterday, Monday, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced that its leader in Lebanon, Fatah Sharif Abu Al-Amin, was martyred in a raid in the Al-Bass Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, along with his wife, son, and daughter. Israel later confirmed that it had killed him.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine also confirmed the martyrdom of 3 of its cadres in a raid in the Kula area, and Israel later confirmed that it had killed two of the Front’s leaders, the Lebanon region official, Nidal Abdel-Al, and the military official in Lebanon, Imad Odeh.
At dawn on Tuesday, the Israeli army announced that it was launching a ground operation in southern Lebanon.
