An emergency Security Council meeting and responses warning of escalation after Iran’s attacks news

Today, Wednesday, the UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the escalation in the Middle East in light of the intensified Israeli raids on Lebanon and the Iranian missile bombardment on areas in Israel, at a time when reactions to the missile attack carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard launched more than 200 ballistic missiles at sites. US President Joe Biden announced that the United States “fully supports” Israel after the attack launched by Iran on Tuesday evening. Biden indicated that he did not speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, but confirmed that he intends to do so, without providing further details.
Biden repeated what was said by White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, saying that the Iranian attack on Israel was “ineffective” and was “repelled” with the support of the United States.
The Elysee Palace announced that French President Emmanuel Macron “condemned in the strongest terms the new attacks launched by Iran on Israel,” noting that Paris “mobilized” on Tuesday “its military capabilities in the Middle East to confront the Iranian threat.”
The French presidency said in a statement issued at dawn on Wednesday at the conclusion of a Defense Council meeting that Macron called on “Hezbollah to stop its terrorist acts against Israel and its population,” recalling that France is “committed to Israel’s security.”
In return, the French President asked the Israeli authorities to “put an end as soon as possible” to their “military operations” in Lebanon. Macron also called on “all parties concerned with the crisis in the Middle East” to “show the greatest amount of restraint.”
According to the statement, Macron asked Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot to “visit the Middle East again” after he visited Beirut just a few days ago.
The new Japanese Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba, on Wednesday considered the missile attacks launched by Iran on Israel on Tuesday evening “unacceptable.”
He told reporters, “The Iranian attack is unacceptable. We will strongly condemn it, but at the same time, we would like to cooperate (with the United States) to calm the situation and prevent it from escalating into an all-out war.”

European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell condemned “in the strongest terms” the Iranian attack on Israel, calling for an “immediate ceasefire.”
- United Nations
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Tuesday denounced “the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East,” stressing that “this must stop. We absolutely need a ceasefire.”
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced on Tuesday that the explosive situation in the Middle East shows the “abject failure” of American policy in the region and Washington's “inability” to prevent escalation.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called for an end to the “cycle of violence,” while the Foreign Ministry called for “restraint.”
“The Spanish government denounces Iran’s attack on Israel and demands an end to the cycle of violence,” Sanchez wrote.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock called on Iran to stop its missile attack on Israel, considering that it is leading the region “further towards the abyss.” “I condemn the attack in the strongest terms,” she wrote on the X platform.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday evening condemned “in the strongest terms” the attack, reaffirming the United Kingdom’s “steadfast commitment” to Israel’s security.
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie denounced the attack and said: “We have all witnessed Iran's attacks against Israel and we categorically condemn them. They will only further destabilize the region and must stop.”
The Iranian president praised the “decisive response” to the Israeli “aggression.” Masoud Pezeshkian said: “In accordance with legitimate rights and with the aim of (establishing) peace and security in Iran and the region, a decisive response was made to the aggression of the Zionist entity.”
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) praised the attack and said: “We congratulate the heroic rocket launch carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Iran,” stressing that “this honorable Iranian response is a strong message to the Zionist enemy and its fascist government, on the path to deterring them and curbing their terrorism.”
