It was THE trick to avoid paying shipping costs at Amazon even without an expensive Prime subscription: Anyone who chose a DHL or Amazon packing station as the pickup address received the delivery free.
Amazon is now putting a stop to this! From now on, every parcel will cost 1.99 euros, the online giant announced. The delivery fee will only be waived for orders worth 39 euros or more (the limit was raised one and a half years agoFor deliveries to the front door, shipping costs of 3.99 euros will continue to apply.
Only certain items such as books and Kindle devices are still shipped free of charge.
For customers with Prime subscription (89 euros per year) nothing changes. You will continue to receive your packages free of charge.
Are customers now switching to the competition?
By comparison, Amazon's competitors, such as the Chinese low-cost provider Temu, generally send their shipments free of charge. However, shipping almost always takes more than a week. Customers of the China shop also have to do without western branded goods.
“Introducing a minimum order value for free deliveries to pickup points is not a decision we take lightly,” Amazon told “Mirror” “However, like any company, we regularly review our pricing structure and make adjustments where necessary. We do this with the aim of offering customers greater added value.”
Amazon also emphasized in its statement that deliveries to pickup stations are still cheaper than doorstep deliveries. They're just no longer free.
On the bargain platform “Mydealz“ the move caused a mixed response. Many announced that they would order from other online shops such as Ebay, Saturn or MediaMarkt in the future. Another user wrote: “It's just shipping costs. Why shouldn't they be charged for shipping to a packing station or something similar? Some people really have ideas…”
