We've all been there: you order a product and it's not what you expected or it arrives damaged. During Prime Days on July 16 and 17, many products are ordered and then sent back. However, there are a few things you should keep in mind to ensure you get your money back.

Amazon return policy

According to EU law, online buyers have the right to return the ordered goods within 14 days of delivery without giving any reason. This means that you can exercise your right of withdrawal. If you simply do not like the goods, you have 30 days to return them. However, Amazon offers a general 30-day return guarantee for many items.

Depending on the bank or credit institution, the refund may vary or be delayed. Refunds are usually credited back to the payment method used when ordering. You can check the status of your refund at Amazon Prime under “My Account” in the order details.

When returning an item, it is important that it is returned in the same condition in which it was received. This means that new items must be sent unused and undamaged, and used or broken products must not show any other damage.

You should also note that any personal data contained in or on the goods must be removed before returning them.

Exceptions to the return guarantee

However, Amazon has some exceptions where the regular return policy does not apply. It is possible that items from the categories Camera, Electronics, Computers & Accessories, Office Supplies, Music CDs & Vinyl, Video and Video Games have a return period of 14 days or even no return is possible. The applicable conditions for a specific item can be seen on the product detail page.

There are also other exceptions where returns are not possible for various reasons.

  • Hygiene products (e.g. earrings or creams)
  • Sound, video recordings or computer software with a sealed package, if the seal has been removed after delivery
  • personalized or handmade items (e.g. jewelry with engravings)
  • Newspapers, magazines or illustrated magazines
