SZ podcast on the education summit: “Money alone does not make education” – Education
Federal Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger (FDP) has invited people to an education summit in Berlin on Tuesday and Wednesday. There has been harsh criticism, particularly from Union politicians from the federal states. 14 of 16 specialist ministers, including those from other parties, are demonstratively staying away from the summit.
This is “at best a kick-off for a very participatory educational discussion throughout Germany,” says the president of the BLLV teachers' association, Simone Fleischmann. It would be a “real disgrace for educational policy” if the weakest were to fall further behind. Given the shortage of skilled workers, the almost 50,000 school dropouts per year are no longer affordable. The system needs to be changed. It is no longer about analysis, but about how problems can be solved. “We need people who get things done.” More and more money is not the solution, but it is the prerequisite for change: “Nothing works without money.” But: “Money doesn't make for lessons.”
