EXIST programme in Germany |Start-ups from science
From innovative solutions for a sustainable economy to new AI applications: groundbreaking business ideas often arise at universities or non-university research institutions. The EXIST funding program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection helps turn these ideas into start-ups.
What are the goals of EXIST?
The program has been promoting the start-up culture at universities through competitions since 1998. The aim is to increase the number of start-ups by offering support. Since 2000, university graduates, scientists and students have been able to receive financial grants. There are three funding programs: EXIST start-up grant, EXIST research transfer and EXIST potential.
What exactly does EXIST funding look like?
For example, start-up teams can receive a scholarship to develop a business plan and prepare for the company formation with the support of their university or research institution. The EXIST Research Transfer program supports complex development work for research-based projects. Strengthening the start-up culture and creating the necessary framework conditions for start-ups from science are at the heart of EXIST Potential. There is also the Startup Factories lighthouse competition, which supports internationally visible projects.
