The world's first AI hospital is set to open in China this year. Robot doctors are expected to treat around 3,000 patients a day.
The virtual facility, called “Agent Hospital,” is said to have the potential to save millions of euros. The AI system developed by researchers at Tsinghua University (Beijing)hospital is expected to be operational in the second half of 2024.
Tests have shown that Dr. Robot can answer questions on the US medical licensing exam correctly with 93.06 percent accuracy. The head of the research team, Liu Yang, says, according to the Global Times, that the AI hospital will bring enormous benefits to both medical professionals and the general public.
AI doctors treat 10,000 patients in a few days
A total of 14 robo-doctors and four nurses work in the AI hospital. They are supposed to care for the patients, diagnose illnesses and create detailed treatment plans.
Thanks to the simulated environment and the ability to develop independently, AI Doctors can probably treat up to 10,000 patients within a few days. In a normal hospital with human doctors, this would take at least two years.
AI doctors can diagnose diseases and make suggestions for treatment
Liu explains that the AI hospital can even predict the spread, development and control of infectious diseases in a region. Medical students can also benefit from the model. They can treat AI patients without harming real people.
